History & Establishment

Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce established in August, 1983, so is the library. Over the years it is growing progressively by adding up infrastructure, collection as well as manpower.

Keeping pace with the technology, library adopted automated systems for its functioning and management and set up electronic library for its users. Grants received from UGC are used to enrich its collection.


Infrastructure & Ambiance

Library has a good infrastructure and pleasant ambiance. It is spread over 3 different locations at the SCAC college campus. Main library is situated at the ground floor, having 1250 sq. ft. of stack area and administrative blocks & 1250 sq. ft. of Reading Room. Reference Section & e-library is situated at the basement. This section has computer terminals for students to access e-resources of the library


LAC (Library Advisory Committee)

Library is governed by Library Advisory Committee (LAC). The Principal is the chairman of the committee while The Librarian is the secretary. The Committee consists of 11 members who include Vice Principal and HODs and faculty representatives of various departments of college. Committee members meet at least once in the semester. Committee members discuss issues pertaining to library administration, collection development, services, and policy decisions. Members give suggestions for the improvement in library services and collection development for the benefit of students and staff members.


Collection

Currently the Library is having more than 35,000 books and over 70 periodicals and digital resources covering various branches of knowledge. The collection of the Library is very strong in Economics, English, & Management subjects. Other than books, the collection of the library includes CDs, DVDs, databases and e-journals. Reference section of library includes various reports, dictionaries, directories, nation/city guides and other such reference documents.

The library has a very good collection of encyclopedias on different subjects. We have many single volume as well as multivolume encyclopedias on various subjects like Communications, History, Environment & Pollution Control, Management, Literature, Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Political Science, Gandhian Thoughts, Tourism, and Literacy Criticism. The e-library section of our library provides access to databases and online journals.

Library aims at overall personality development of the students. Therefore along with the syllabus related books library has a very good collection of recreational literature in English, Marathi and Hindi. Also library has books for the preparation of competitive exam.

Membership

The bonafide students of Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce can become a member of the Library. To become a member of the library, students have to fill

The form supplied to them at the time of the admission. The Staff Members Teaching as well as non-teaching) are by default members of the library as well.


Library Automation

In the year 2007-08 library started the process of automation. KOHA open source software is being used for library automation and networking. WEB OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) is available.

Also our library has introduced e-library from the year 2009-10. Under e-library, students have access to some major databases and e-journals
